WOE Races

Erde Home

  • Elves
    • They tend to look on Humans as a child race to be aided from afar, but they won't move them along in tech or magic preferring to let them grow on their own ala Star Trek's prime directive.
    • They are the dominant race on Erde
    • Live a long time - nobody knows how long. This tends to create some very powerful Elves as they have a long time to perfect their craft. However, they see themselves as Stewards of Erde so they live in harmony with her.
    • Specialize in magic crafting and can craft like Dwarves (i.e. non-playable class of Crafter)
    • Not as natural smiths as Dwarves, but the best Elven smiths can come close to the best Dwarven smiths since they have much more time to devote to their craft.
  • Dwarves
    • Live in the mountains to the north. They are typical Dwarves - i.e. miners, love mithril, stonework, etc.
    • Some contact and trade with Humans, but not much. They trade more with Orcs and Elves as they are closer.
    • They live longer than Humans, but not as long as Elves.
    • Crafting is a non-playable class for them. They are natural crafters.
  • Orcs
    • Similar to Klingons in Star Trek the Next Generation in relationship with Humans. Some are friendly, some neutral, some hostile.
    • Natural fighters, some shaman, wizards are VERY rare.
    • Strength rules. If you can't defeat it, it deserves to rule you. One of the reasons wizards are so rare is that all orcs at a young age are brought up as fighters or some variation. Those born with magical ability generally learn to ignore or suppress it. Strength is respected, magic is seen as a shortcut to be avoided. Why would you need a shortcut? Are you weak?!
    • Women are protected as life can be brutal, violent, and short which requires procreation.
    • Same general lifespan as Humans.
    • The tribes are generally separate from each other - like city states.
    • They don't like salt water much (or any large bodies of water), so no conflict with Humans for coastal land.
  • Humans
    • Recently came to this land from across the sea by primitive boats. They got lucky crossing the ocean and couldn't return due to prevailing winds and lack of knowledge.
    • Civilization is relatively primitive. Only have coastal hugging boats.
    • Divided into city states each with separate government. Most are ruled by a Lord and Nobles. The Nobles have estates surrounding the city state.
    • Wizards and Sorcerers are feared and not trusted. Most Humans have no magical ability so they fear those that do. As a result, there are no Mage's Guilds. Most practice in secret so a young mage has a mentor and generally can only learn starting spells from the mentor's list.
  • Goblins
    • These are the main antagonists of the land.
    • They are primitive and hostile. Individually they are weak and cowardly, but they work well in groups and like to gang up on opponents.
    • Clever and can strategize and plan well. All classes are represented except barbarian.
    • Very communal and speak their own language.
